LYDIA BELL MCQUEEN MARKLE, Somerville Community resident, retired Wilder Youth Development Center Counselor and wife of Junior Markle died Monday evening, April 5, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for six days. She was 74 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Markle were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, April 9th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Rickey Burns, Pastor of the Williston Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston, and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Markle was born October 5, 1935 in Somerville the daughter of Jim McQueen and Clara Graham McQueen, who have both preceded her in death.
She attended Fayette County Public Schools and was a resident of both the Somerville and Williston Communities.
She was a member of the Williston Baptist Church and was married June 21, 1952 to Junior Markle, who survives.
Mrs. Markle was employed by the Wilder Youth Development Center in Somerville where she retired in 1973 as a Counselor.
A homemaker devoted to her family, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, bird watching, fishing, quilting and special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of fifty-eight years, Mrs. Markle is survived by two daughters, Debra Warf (Harry) and Sissy Burns (Rickey), both of Williston; three sisters: Georgia Laughter of Moscow; Mary Nelle Murrell of Oakland and Alean Dowdy (Howard) of Laconia; three brothers: Wayne McQueen of Moscow; Ralph McQueen (Sue) of Pocahontas, TN and Ricky McQueen (Audrey) of Williston; 5 grandchildren: Donnie Warf, Kelly Cannon, Dale Burns, Chris Burns and Kimberly Burns and 11 great-grandchildren: Shane Warf, Dallas Warf, Carlee Warf, Hunter Warf, Reno Tice, Sierra Tice, Carson Tice, Kaylah Burns, Kirsten Burns, Dalton Burns and Cory Burns.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Dale McQueen and three brothers: James McQueen, Franklin McQueen and Donald McQueen.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Donnie Warf, Dale Burns, Tommy McQueen, Frank McQueen, Lawrence Murrell, James McQueen, Howard Dowdy, Keith Cannon, Kevin McQueen, Jeff Glover and Ray Markle.
