Lydia Luna Martinez

August 3, 1946 — December 2, 2007

LYDIA LUNA MARTINEZ, a resident of the Hickory Withe community and wife of Raymond E. Martinez, Sr., died at 7:21 A.M. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for six days. She was 61 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.


Funeral services for Mrs. Martinez were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, December 4th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Highway 64 at Oakland with Bill Davis, Deacon St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.


Mrs. Martinez was born August 3, 1946 in Mercedes, TX the daughter of Juan and Juana Luna. She moved at an early age with her parents to Parkin, AR where she attended public schools and was married to Raymond E. Martinez, Sr., who survives.


Mrs. Martinez was a homemaker and was a resident of Parkin and Forrest City, AR, before moving to Fayette County. She was a member of the St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church and will be remembered for her love of sharing her homemade tamales with family and friends. She enjoyed flowers and special times with her family and grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.


In addition to her husband, Mrs. Martinez is survived by four daughters, Maria E. Moreno of Hickory Withe, Maria H. Vaughn of Marion, AR, Esmeralda M. Halbert of Forrest City, AR and Victoria Becerra of Columbia, MO; two sons, Raymond E. Martinez, Jr. of Marion, AR and Bonifacio S. Martinez of West Memphis, AR; her sister, Louise Maria L. Loredo of Lansing, MI; six brothers, Julian Luna of California, Perfecto Luna and Juan Luna of Texas, Delores Luna, Ruben Luna and Francisco Luna, all of Florida; sixteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers were J. Adrian Normand, Jr., Justin Lee Moreno, Coaltian Estevan Martinez, Michael Alan Alford, Ray Estevan Halbert, III and Jesse Gavino Martinez.
