LYNDAL E. CRUMP, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community, longtime area electrician and United States Veteran, died at 7:21 A.M. Friday, March 14, 2008 at his residence on Estate Drive. He was 66 years of age and died following an illness of two months.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday March 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Bill Sorrell and Rev. Al Davis, officiating. Special remarks were given by a close friend, Ralph Gusmus. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Hardeman County, Mr. Crump was born December 7, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. Crump and Dorothy Clifft Crump. He was educated in the Hardeman County public school system and was a graduate of the Whiteville High School. Mr. Crump was married December 27, 1961, to the former Evelyn Steward of Fayette County, a Registered Nurse with the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, who survives.
Mr. Crump served in the United States Army in earlier years and had been involved with electrical contracting throughout his life. He served as an electrical project manager for the Gusmus Electric Company in Memphis for thirty years before his recent retirement and was then associated with his son and grandson in the operation of Crump Electric in Somerville.
Mr. Crump was a member of the Whiteville First United Methodist Church and his interests included hunting, golfing, traveling and outdoor grilling. A history buff who enjoyed reading, Mr. Crump will be remembered as a colorful person who enjoyed people of all ages. His quick wit and ever present smile endeared him to his loving family and many friends.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kathi Crump Henson of Hickory Withe; his son, Tal Crump of Somerville; 3 siblings; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Brett Crump, Henry Hadley, Rodney King, Jeff Campbell, Al Sutterfield and Doug Kennon.
Honorary casketbearers were Gerald "Hutch" Hutcherson, Ralph Gusmus, Bobby Riles, Ralph Myers, Wesley Parks, Sr. and Austin White.
