Mabel Ellen Daniel Rogers, longtime resident of the Whiteville Community and wife of the late Oakley Hughes Rogers departed this life Wednesday morning, September 28, 2011 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for six days. She was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services Honoring the Life for Mrs. Rogers were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 30th
at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Bill Sorrell of the Whiteville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery at Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Rogers was born February 27, 1922 in Tyler, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Bunyan Daniel and Ellenora Birdie Bryan Daniel. Mrs. Rogers received her education in the Waco, Texas Public School System and was married June 15, 1940 in Waco, Texas to Oakley Hughes Rogers of the Whiteville Community and United States World War II Veteran, who died November 27, 1972.
Mr. and Mrs. Rogers returned to the Whiteville Community after Mr. Rogers’ service to his country and made their home in the Mt. Moriah and Whiteville Communities the remainder of their lives. Mrs. Rogers was employed by the Salant and Salant Manufacturing Company in Somerville in earlier years and retired after serving as a Dietician for the Western Mental Health Institute in Bolivar.
She had been an active member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in the Mt. Moriah Community for many years before moving to Whiteville in recent years and becoming a member of the Whiteville First Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker throughout her life with a great love for her family, her community and her church. She was known for her enjoyment of flowers and gardening and was an avid reader who enjoyed her pet cats and classic television movies.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her daughter, Melissa Good (Brandon) of Whiteville, three sons, Robert Bruce Rogers (Helen) of Bolivar, Daniel Rogers (Nancy) of Bolivar, Carey Rogers (Wanda) of Somerville, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her son, James Edward (Jimmy) Rogers, who died September 4, 2003.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Rogers, Jr., Adam Rogers, Craig Howell, Matt Oliver, Joey Booth, Adam Wheeler and Matthew Rogers.
