Mable Irene Thompson Bishop, age 77, resident of the District 15 Community in Fayette County and wife of Roy Edward Bishop, departed this life Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2015 at her residence.
Mrs. Bishop was born April 9, 1938 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thompson and Ora Lee Perrigo Thompson. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of the District 15 and Somerville areas. She was employed as a seamstress for Somerville Manufacturing Corporation and Master Apparel Corporation for over 30 years before her retirement. Mrs. Bishop was married September 27, 1985 to Roy Edward Bishop, who survives. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, quilting, preparing food and special times with her family.
In addition to her husband of 29 years, Mrs. Bishop is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Tennyson (Charles) of Savannah; her step-daughter, Sandra Tranum of Somerville; her step-son, Wendell Bishop (Dottie) of Brownsville; five sisters, Claire Mitchell of Booneville, MS, Pauline Conner of Somerville, Sarah Cannon of Somerville, Mary Johnson of Somerville, Martha Ann Cannon (Tobey) of Somerville; two brothers, Toby Thompson (Christine) of Booneville, MS, Bobby Thompson of Somerville; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and three great-great grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Cannon; two brothers, Tommy Thompson, Danny Ray Thompson; and her half-brother, Jodie Perrigo.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Christopher Bishop, Hunter Weeks, Dylan Peterson, Daniel Peterson, Dean Peterson and Brandon Bishop.
