Mable Louise (Doherty) Holt

Mable Louise Doherty Holt, resident of the Grand Valley Lakes Community in Hardeman County, departed this life Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014 at the Dove Healthcare Center in Collierville where she resided for two weeks. She was 79 years of age and died following an illness of three months.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Holt were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, September 22nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Ray Lovelady, pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hickory Valley, officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Hickory Valley. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Holt was born October 1, 1934 in Parsons, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Connie Doherty and Arbie Mills Doherty. She received her education in the Decatur County, Tennessee Public School System and owned a cleaning service company for 15 years before her retirement in 1994.

Mrs. Holt moved to the Grand Valley Lakes Community ten years ago and was of the Baptist faith. Gardening, quilting and sewing were favorite pastimes.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Wade of Hickory Valley, TN; three sons, Billy Barnes (Cindy) of Covington, TN, Jerry Lee Barnes, Sr. (Faye) of Saulsbury, TN, Larry Barnes (Sharon) of Saulsbury, TN; three sisters, Pat Meeks (Robert) of Munford, TN, Ann McNeese (Jim) of Mississippi, Betty Lemons of Mississippi; two brothers, Kenneth Doherty of Oakland, TN, Timothy Doherty of Memphis, TN; 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Barnes, two brothers, Jimmy Doherty, Edward Doherty; and two sisters, Carolyn Foster and Wanda Carpenter.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
