Mable Lee Nolen Wilkerson, age 93, resident of Oakland, former resident of Memphis, departed this life Thursday morning, June 18, 2015 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Ms. Wilkerson were conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, June 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Kent Bailey of Collierville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Ms. Wilkerson was born December 17, 1921 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Lester Nolen and Pearl Annalee Camp Nolen. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a resident of Memphis for much of her life before moving to Oakland to be close to her family. Ms. Wilkerson was a homemaker throughout her life and was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Memphis. She enjoyed cleaning her house, preparing food and had a special love for her church family.
Ms. Wilkerson is survived by her daughter, Peggy Cheramie of New Orleans, LA; two sons, Thomas Wilkerson (Susan) of Oakland, Roger Wilkerson of Oakland; her sister, Laverne Long of Memphis; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Shirley Fountain, Barbara Smith, Diana Youngblood; and four sisters, Marie Henson, Lucille Riales, Lavell Lavender and Geneva Winningham.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
