Mable (Maxine) M. Davis, 91, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, formerly of Cordova, Tennessee, passed into heaven on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2017.
She was born on September, 29th, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee to Thomas Eugene and Susie Vera McCaskill. As a child, she lived in Mississippi and Tennessee during the depression and graduated from Holly Springs, Mississippi High School in 1942. She married the late Jesse M. Davis on November 24th, 1945 in San Diego during Jesse’s shore leave prior to his return to the Pacific. A treasured family story relates that she took a train alone cross country to meet her fiancé in San Diego. While he was serving with the Navy and later the Air Force, they lived in Alabama and Florida prior to returning to the Memphis, TN area. They were married for 71 years and lived in Cordova, TN for several decades.
Maxine raised two children while traveling as a military spouse and then worked for the State Employment Department of the State of Tennessee for 20 years. She was active in her churches, most recently Faith Baptist Church of Bartlett, Tennessee as well as at Bellevue Baptist Church under pastor Dr. Adrian Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse “Morris” Davis, her beloved son, Ronny G Davis and her grandson, Mark Douglass Brown, and sisters Jean Andrews and Emma Odell. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Brown Katz and her husband Ronald of Fayetteville, NC; two step-grand daughters Stephanie and Naomi Katz, as well as several nieces and nephews who adored her, along with their children and grandchildren. She also leaves behind cherished former neighbors, Jeff and Pamela Glover and their children; all of whom helped Jesse and Maxine live in their home for many years past the time for a move to assisted living.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Davis were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Reverend Virgil Stoneking officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jimmy Davis, Jeff Davis, Mark Ward, Buck Sides, Jeff Glover and Ron Katz.
