Mamie (Rhea) Smith

September 25, 1922 — June 15, 2012

Mamie Rhea Smith, age 89, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Robert O. Smith died at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville.

Services for Mrs. Smith will be at 2 Monday afternoon at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. David Reeves of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville officiating. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. A visitation for Mrs. Smith will be from 1 until 2 Monday afternoon at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Smith was born September 25, 1922 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed Rhea and Jettie Rigsby Rhea. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School.

Mrs. Smith married Robert O. Smith, longtime service station operator in Somerville, in 1944. Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 2002. She enjoyed women's basketball and was an avid Memphis State Basketball fan.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Judy Crawford of Somerville; her son, Bobby Smith of the Warren Community; her sister, Sally Diggs of Williston; five grandchildren, Kevin Crawford, Ken Crawford, Rachel Earnest, Wendy Brents, Allen Michael Smith; and seven great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Kevin Crawford, Ken Crawford, Allen Michael Smith, Arthur (Butch) Rhea, Ryan Rhea and Randy Rhea.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
