Margaret Sawner Hardin Taylor, resident of the Somerville Community, wife of James Taylor and retired owner of Margaret’s Beauty Shop and Margaret’s Fabric Store in Somerville died Monday afternoon, April 23, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for five days. She was 84 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Taylor were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, April 27th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Roger Briggs, retired Fayette County Director of Missions officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Carl Doyle of the Oakland First Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Taylor was born October 2, 1927 in Corinth, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar McGoy Sawner and Lillie Jane Freeman Sawner. She was educated in the Hardin County, Tennessee Public School System and was married on November 13, 1945 to Edgar Hardin, longtime Chickasaw Electric Cooperative employee, who preceded her in death on June 13, 2000.
She was married November 8, 2002 to James C. Taylor of Somerville, who survives. Mrs. Taylor had been a resident of Fayette County since 1952 and was a member of the Oakland First Baptist Church. She was an active member of her community throughout her life and was a charter member of the 20th Century Club and was a board member of the National Healthcare Corporation.
Mrs. Taylor will be remembered as a caregiver and a person who enjoyed laughter and special times with family and friends. She was an active member of the Somerville Business and Professional Women’s Club and in earlier years was the recipient of the Business and Professional Woman of the Year award. She was also a devoted homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Regina Hardin Jenkins (Richard) of Somerville, Lola Lynn Hardin Putt (Larry) of Somerville; her son, Eddie Erwin “Ed” Hardin (Carolyn) of Memphis; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Taylor Stackley (Louis) of Somerville, Nancy Taylor Surtees of Dallas, TX; her stepson, Slater Lee Taylor of Somerville; her sister, Mary Lois Prince of Atlanta, GA; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Taylor was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Phillip Hardin, Russell Jenkins, Ronald Jenkins, Bob White, Wilmer Thompson, David Reeves and Ginny Lynn Tibbels.
