MARGARET CATHRYN GUTHRIE MURRAY, a resident of Somerville, former resident of Memphis and retired Kroger Company employee, died at 5:05 P.M. Friday, June 20, 2008 at the National Health Care Center in Somerville where she had resided for thirteen months. She was 78 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Murray were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, June 22nd at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with the Rev. Jack Moore, Pastor of the Fisherville First Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Ralph Thomas, Associate Pastor of the church. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Murray was a native of Kentucky. She was born May 7, 1930 and was preceded in death by her parents, Noel Guthrie and Nora Crittenden Guthrie. She was educated in the public school system of Kentucky and moved to the Memphis area after her marriage to Robert Murray who died in 1986. She was later married to William Kimbriel, employee of the Cordova Automotive Company who died on January 29th of this year.
Mrs. Murray was a former resident of Shelby County for much of her life before moving to Somerville. She was a Christian and of the Baptist Faith and was employed for a number of years as Head Cashier for the Kroger Company in Memphis before her retirement in 1992. Mrs. Murray will be remembered for her "green thumb" in vegetable and flower gardening and enjoyed sharing her bountiful garden with others.
She was a devoted grandmother who enjoyed animals, with a special love for cats. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed bird watching and providing bird feeders in her yard for her favorite hummingbirds and finches.
Survivors of Mrs. Murray include her daughter, Margaret Vaughn (David) of the Fisherville Community in Fayette County; two sons, Richard Murray (Eilleen) of Crystal City, MO and Roger Murray (Debbie) of Loretto, TN; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers included James Murray, Chris Jamison, Bobby Murray and David Vaughn.
