MARIE LOUISE PARRISH HANNAH, longtime resident of the Arlington Community and wife of the late Claude Leon Hannah , departed on her heavenly bound flight at 5:05 P.M. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the residence of a son in Arlington. She was 87 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday February 22nd at the Arlington Church of Christ with Bro. Carroll Beardain and Bro. Jeremy James, ministers of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Arlington Cemetery at Arlington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Hannah was born April 5, 1920, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Edward Barnette Parrish and the late Sweetie Marie Campbell Parrish. She was educated in local schools and was married January 12, 1934, to Claude Leon Hannah who preceded her in death December 10, 1972.
Known as the "Avon Lady" by many in the Arlington area, Mrs. Hannah served as an Avon Cosmetic Sales Representative for a number of years in the area before her retirement. She was a devoted member of the Arlington Church of Christ and was instrumental in the formation of the Arlington Church with the initial congregation first meeting in the home of Mrs. Hannah.
A former resident of the Shelby Forest Area of Shelby County, Mrs. Hannah had been a resident of Arlington for over 50 years. A true Southern Lady, Mrs. Hannah will be remembered as a caregiver throughout her life, always placing others first. She emphasized Christian values to all that she came in contact with and served as an inspiration to many. Church, music, flowers, family and community were foremost in Mrs. Hannah's life and her philosophy of life was to always be kind to others because you might very well be "entertaining angels." She exemplified the Christian principle of "I was hungry and you fed me, naked and you clothed me . . ."
Mrs. Hannah is survived by Claudia Horton (George), Debra Pound (David), Carolyn Chambers, Don Hannah (Ruby) Bill Hannah (Linda), Mike Hannah (Freeda), Steve Hannah (Connie), all of Arlington, Wally Delaney (Betty Carol) of Brownsville; daughter-in-law, Ann Hannah and sister, Carolyn Johnson and 91 grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren and spouses.
