Marietta Ruth (Culver) Coleman

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:3

Marietta Ruth Coleman passed from this life to her eternal home on January 28, 2016 in Somerville, Tennessee, where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law. Services will be held Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016 in Galena, Kansas.

Born March 28, 1925 in Galena, Kansas, to Roy Culver and Leila Kerr Culver, Ruth studied nursing before marrying Clark Franklin Vanderpool of Galena. Widowed at an early age, she raised their three children and returned to nursing, becoming a registered nurse and working in Joplin, Missouri; and Baxter Springs, Kansas, before becoming remarried to William L Coleman and moving to Baxter Springs.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Galen M Culver of Riverton, Kansas; her daughter, Leila Marietta Vanderpool Scott (John “Butch”) of Galena, Kansas; her son, Clark Galen “Dutch” Vanderpool (Mary) of Somerville, Tennessee; her seven grandchildren: Shawna Lee Serage, Clark Franklin Freeman (Cheri), Jerry David Shallenburger, Bryan Todd Shallenburger (Lisa), William West Vanderpool, Clark Culver Vanderpool (Amanda) and Nathan Allen Vanderpool (Katie); eight great grandchildren: Kameron Freeman, Stevie Freeman, Avrey Freeman, Lakyn Shallenburger, Laurel Shallenburger, Luke Shallenburger, Clark Judah Vanderpool and Oliver West Vanderpool; and one great-great grandson: Maxon Freeman.

Widowed a second time, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Phillips of Wichita, Kansas; her daughter, Carolyn Grace Vanderpool Shallenburger (David); her great grandson, Shaylinn Freeman and her great grand daughter, Eveline Joelle Vanderpool.

A sweet and gentle lady loved and missed, a blessing to her family, friends and church family, Ruth is resting now in the arms of her Savior.
