Mark William Bixler

September 5, 1942 — May 18, 2014

Mark William Bixler, resident of the Oakland Community, retired contractor and husband of Suzanne List Bixler, stepped into Heaven on Sunday morning, May 18, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett after a valiant battle with leukemia. He was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Bixler were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, May 23rd at the Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova with Rev. Joe Jernigan officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Bixler was born September 5, 1942 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Charles Bixler and Mary Harrison Bixler. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System. He was a graduate of Messick High School in Memphis and continued his education at the Memphis State University. He was married August 5, 1983 to the former Suzanne Elizabeth List, who survives. Mr. Bixler was an electrical contractor in the Memphis area for over 50 years and was well-known in the electrical business, both as a contractor and estimator before retiring ten years ago.

Mr. Bixler was a devoted member of the Bellevue Baptist Church for over twenty years, where he received much pleasure in being a greeter and usher for the church and as a teacher for the 4-year old children’s group. He was a resident of Memphis for many years before moving to the Oakland Community eleven years ago. He will be remembered for his love of fishing.

In addition to his wife of 30 years, Mr. Bixler is survived by two daughters, Debra Courtney of Glasgow, KY, Kelly Harris of Glasgow, KY; two stepdaughters, Toni Issing of Collierville, Regina Smith of North Carolina; two stepsons, Ronald Grubb, Jr. of Washington, D.C., Joel Wilkerson, Jr. of Centerville, TN; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
