MARTHA ELIZABETH PHILLIPS ANDERSON, a resident of Blytheville, Arkansas and a native of the Whiteville Community died at 6:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Heritage Square Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Blytheville. She was 87 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Ms. Anderson were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 22nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Bob Campbell, Interim Pastor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Ms. Anderson was born October 27, 1921 in the Whiteville Community, the daughter of the late Noah Phillips and the late Mattie Lou Walk Phillips.
She was educated in the Whiteville area public school system and was a resident of Memphis for a number of years before moving to Blytheville to be near family members.
Ms. Anderson was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and was a manufacturing company employee in earlier years.
Survivors of Ms. Anderson include three daughters, Dorothy Dunn of Blytheville, AR; Mary Alice Vick of Savannah, TN and Peggy Turner of Olive Branch, MS; three sons, Billy Ray Pepper of Memphis; Larry T. Pepper of Guthrie, OK and Bobby Pepper of Oklahoma.
Local survivors also include a daughter-in-law, Joyce Pepper of Whiteville.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Jessie Pepper and Charles R. Sale.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.
