Martha Frances Fowler Moore, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Alex W. Moore died Sunday afternoon, June 24, 2012 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for eight days. She was 81 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Moore were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 27th at the Somerville First United Methodist Church. Officiating Ministers were Rev. Larry Kendrick and Rev. Walter German. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Moore was born July 5, 1930 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Festus Howell Fowler and Mattie Watkins Fowler. She was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville and was a graduate of Memphis State University. A lifelong resident of Fayette County, Mrs. Moore grew up in an agricultural family and her family continues in farming and ginning today. She was a devoted member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church for many years.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Mrs. Moore is survived by two sons, Howell Moore (Debbie), Tommy Moore (Tanya); her brother, Thomas Howell Fowler (Sue), all of Somerville; and her grandchildren, Win Moore (Amanda), Mauri Moore, Bradley Moore (Cassidy) and Brooke Jenkins (Zach).
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Bradley Moore, Win Moore, Billy Wilson, Wesley Parks, Rodney Parks and Hugh Parks.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 South East Street, Somerville, TN 38068 or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
