Martha W. (Crawford) Polk

August 5, 1925 — December 21, 2012

Martha W. Crawford Polk, resident of the Rossville Community, wife of the late Earnest Polk and lifelong resident of Fayette County died Friday, December 21, 2012 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was 87 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Polk were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, December 27th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Gary Joyner of Williston officiating. Interment followed in the Asbury Cemetery on the Somerville-LaGrange Road. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Polk was born August 5, 1925 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward D. Crawford and Winnie B. Clark Crawford, early residents of the Williston area. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and after graduating from high school, was married to Earnest Polk, retired employee of the International Harvester Company in Memphis, who preceded her in death in 1979.

Mrs. Polk was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime resident of the Williston Community before moving to Rossville 17 years ago to be near her son and his family. She was a homemaker throughout her life and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed people and family gatherings. A favorite pastime was attending area flea markets and auctions, where she developed many friends through the years. She was devoted to her family, her friends, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Mrs. Polk is survived by her son, Clarence E. Polk and his wife, Doris of Rossville; one grandson, Donnie McClendon and his wife, Leslie of Williston; and two great grandchildren, Clara Ann McClendon and Jesse Ray McClendon.

Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by three brothers, William Crawford, Bobby Crawford and Joe Crawford.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joe Neely, Ken Crawford, Wade Langston, Jason Johnson, Eric Graves and James Thompson.
