Martha Ratterman Whitley, resident of the Oakland Community and retired proofreader died Friday afternoon, December 17, 2010 at her residence. She was 88 years of age.
Private Family Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Whitley were conducted on Tuesday, January 4 th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Nashville, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Whitley was born in Nashville December 23, 1921. Her parents, Walter Ratterman and Martha Ann Mitchell Ratterman preceded her in death. She was a graduate of West High School in Nashville and continued her education at the Humes Fogg Business College in Nashville.
A Christian and avid traveler throughout her life, Mrs. Whitley had been a resident of Fayette County since 1986. She was employed as a proof-reader for the Baird Ward Printing Company in Nashville for a number of years before her retirement. Mrs. Whitley was a member of the Audubon Society and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed fly fishing, deep sea fishing and nature.
Survivors of Mrs. Whitley include her daughter, Shannon Walk (Randy) of Oakland, her son, Jay Scott Whitley of Crystal Springs, Florida, her brother, Walter Ratterman, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, five grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Kay Whitley and her son, David Whitley.
