Martha Frances (Sweeton) Anthony

Martha Frances Sweeton Anthony, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Robert Anthony, departed this life Friday evening, May 9, 2014 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, where she had been a patient for ten days. She was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Anthony were conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 13th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Kevin Treadway of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Anthony was born September 21, 1933 in the Braden Community of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Sweeton and Margaret Bishop Sweeton. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married October 31, 1951 to Robert Anthony, a well-known bulldozer and heavy equipment operator in the Fayette County area for much of his life, before his death on June 30, 2001.

Mrs. Anthony was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area and was a homemaker throughout her life. Music, singing and gardening were passions that she enjoyed throughout her life. She will be remembered by her family for her cooking and her love for baking biscuits. Mrs. Anthony was a person devoted to her family with a deep love for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Anthony is survived by three daughters, Carol Hogan of Somerville, Ann Thompson of Somerville, Wilma Thompson of Bolivar; two sons, Randy Anthony of Somerville, Leonard Anthony of Brownsville; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Sweeton, Margie Sweeton, Mildred Manley; her brother, Johnnie Sweeton; two granddaughters, Josie Lynn Hogan, LeAnne Garrison; and her great granddaughter, Riley Garrison.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Douglas Hogan, Joel Garrison, David Thompson, Jonathan Hogan, Jamie Garrison and Bobby Eddington.
