Martin Johnson, a dedicated individual who found his calling in both work and ministry, has passed away at the age of 54. Known for his unwavering commitment to helping the homeless community as the Director of Homeless Ministries for the Catholic Diocese, Martin's impact went far beyond his profession.
Born on March 19, 1970, Martin's early years were marked by a love for music and helping others. He attended Bolton High School and Christian Brothers University, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. While he was employed by FedEx, his true joy stemmed from his ministry work. Martin's selfless dedication earned him recognition, including a feature on the cover of Faith Magazine.
Martin's talents were not limited to the workplace; he was also a gifted singer and songwriter. His worship songs touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting legacy in the realm of music. A man of deep faith, Martin's conservative beliefs guided both his personal and professional life.
Outside of his work and ministry, Martin found solace in spending time with his family, especially during holidays. Few knew of his enjoyment of Black Friday shopping with his father-in-law – a cherished tradition that brought them closer together.
An avid sports fan, Martin delighted in cheering for the Cardinal baseball team and the Steelers football squad. His love for sports was a testament to his enthusiasm for life and community.
In his leisure time, Martin immersed himself in outdoor activities such as camping and boating along the Tennessee River. A skilled grill master, he added flavor and warmth to gatherings with family and friends.
Martin leaves behind a loving family who will deeply feel his absence. He is survived by his wife, Christie Johnson; his daughter, Giahnna Johnson; sons, Gavin and Griffin Johnson; father and stepmother, Hank and Lori Johnson; and his brothers, Hank and Patrick Johnson. In addition, he is also survived by his mother-in-law, Tammie Powers.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rhonda Johnson and father-in-law, Larry Powers.
Memorial Services for Martin were held at 6 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.
