MARVIN ACIE GERMAN, SR., lifelong Fayette County resident, retired wire and cable industry Supervisor and husband of Sue Simmons German died Tuesday evening, March 16, 2010 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital where he had been a patient for three months. He was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. German were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, March 19th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Midway Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Special music was provided by Mr. German's great-granddaughter, Kayla Reeves. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery at Moscow, and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. German was born in the Warren Community of Fayette County on April 27, 1938 to William David "Buddy" German and Homer Elizabeth Crafton German, who have both preceded him in death.
He attended Fayette County Schools and was married on June 2, 1957 to the former Sue Simmons, homemaker and wire/cable industry employee, who survives.
Until his illness, Mr. German owned and operated a lawn service and had been a handyman in the Moscow area. He retired in 1988 as a Supervisor in Memphis from the Wire and Cable Industry.
Of the Methodist faith, Mr. German was a devoted family-oriented person whose interests included outdoor sports and bird-hunting.
Known as a man who loved to fish, he had been a proud resident of Moscow for forty-seven years, where he frequented the Wolf River in search of his next big catch.
In addition to his wife of fifty-two years, survivors of Mr. German include his daughter, Debbie Reeves (Ricky) of Williston; his son, Marvin A. German, Jr. (Kathy) of Victoria, MS; four sisters: Mary Curran of Somerville; Barbara McCullough of Brownsville; Brenda Hensley of Somerville and Janise Boering of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Winston German of Somerville and Carl German of Drummonds, TN; two grandchildren, Gregory Reeves and Cory German; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Reeves, and the family is looking forward to the very soon arrival of another great-grandchild, Jamie Lynn Acie Reeves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron German and three brothers: J. W. German, Robert German and David German.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Del Fraley, Ray Garcia, III, Anthony German, Jason German, Brandy Long, Calvin Sanders, Randy Williams and Ricky Williams.
Honorary casket bearers were Ray Garcia, Ricky Reeves, Jim Sharp, Edward Simmons and Tim Wheatley.
