Mary Ann Moss Bobbitt, resident of Bolivar, former resident of the Moscow Community and wife of the late Eugene "Red" Bobbitt departed this life Wednesday morning, August 28, 2013 at the McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer where she had been a patient for one day. She was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services for Mrs. Bobbitt were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, August 30th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Aaron Moss of Bethel Springs, Tennessee officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasants Cemetery near Rossville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Bobbitt was born August 26, 1941 in Hardeman County. She was preceded in death by her parents, John P. Moss and Hester Mercer Moss. She received her education in the Hardeman County Public School System and was married to Eugene “Red” Bobbitt, who preceded her in death in 1985.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobbitt were residents of the Moscow Community for a number of years and operated businesses in the Moscow area that included Bobbitt’s Auto Sales, Bobbitt’s Grocery Store and Bobbitt’s Restaurant. She and her husband enjoyed the friendship of many people and customers in the community while operating their businesses.
Mrs. Bobbitt had been a resident of Bolivar for the past 10 years. She was a former member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Slayden, Mississippi and at the time of her death was a member of the Shandy Baptist Church at Bolivar. She was considered an entrepreneur by many and enjoyed new projects throughout her life. She loved her family and had compassion for all pets including her dog and cats. She and her pet gorilla, “Charlie”, were familiar figures in the community, often seen in the vehicle together and at the auto sales office in Moscow.
Mrs. Bobbitt is survived by her son, Johnny L. Bobbitt (Elizabeth) of Bolivar; her sister, Helen Ruth Kee of Bolivar; three grandchildren, Joshua James Tice, Crystal Gayle Bobbitt, Jessica Lauren Bobbitt; and six great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Tice and her son, James Eugene "Bubba" Bobbitt.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jonathan Tice, Chris Tice, Joshua Goligher, Dennis Kee, Mike Kee and Tony L. Kee.
