Mary Ann (Houston) Carter

April 16, 1950 — August 18, 2011

Mary Ann Houston Carter, resident of the Somerville Community and local Childcare Provider died Thursday morning, August 18, 2011 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville. She was 61 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Carter were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, August 21 st at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville.  The officiating ministers were Bro. Tom Medley of Imboden, Arkansas and Bro. Frank Feathers of Holly Springs. Interment followed in the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center—Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Carter was born April 16, 1950 in Ashland, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward David Houston and Addie Lou Cindy Feathers.  Mrs. Carter moved to Fayette County at an early age with her parents and received her education in the Fayette County Public School System. She had been a resident of the Somerville Community for much of her life and served as a Childcare Provider until her recent illness. Mrs. Carter was of the Baptist Faith and devoted to her family.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her daughter, Cindy Shields (William) of Bolivar, two sisters, Sara Frances Morrow of Somerville, Tina Mae Houston of Somerville, a grandson, Matthew Brady Shields of Bolivar, two nieces, three nephews and a number of great nieces and great nephews.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Donnie Glenn Gammel, Donnie W. German, Gerald “Bubba” Morrow, Justin German, David German or Clarence “Billbo” Gammel.

Honorary casketbearers were Andy Pace, Frankie Moon, Timmy Moon, Adrien Baskerville and Chris Gray.
