Mary Jean Wiley Clayton, resident of Memphis, former resident of the Mt. Pleasant Road in the Rossville Community and wife of the late Donald H. Clayton, Sr., departed this life Sunday morning, May 11, 2014 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 81 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance at the Graveside for Mrs. Clayton were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, May 15th with Rev. Kent Bailey of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Clayton was born April 4, 1933 in Eudora, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Wiley, Sr. and Adde Smith Wiley. She received her education in the DeSoto County Public School System and was married February 17, 1951 to Donald H. Clayton, Sr., a retired grocery store manager, who preceded her in death on April 26, 2006.
Mrs. Clayton was a healthcare provider in West Tennessee for over 30 years and completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program through Cedar Sinai in Beverly Hills, California. She was associated with the CNA Registry in the West Tennessee area for many years before her retirement.
Mrs. Clayton was a Christian and of the Presbyterian faith. She received much pleasure in caring for others and her interests included knitting, fishing and reading her Bible.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by her daughter, Rita Godinez of Memphis; her son, Ronald D. Clayton (Judith) of Collierville; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald H. Clayton, Jr.
