Mary Elizabeth German Curran, resident of the Antioch Community in Fayette County and retired Memphis Beautician died Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011 at the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital-North in Memphis where she had been a patient for a week. She was 64 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Curran were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, June 26 th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel with Rev. Freddie Clift and her nephew, Anthony German, officiating. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Curran was born July 8, 1946 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents William David German and Elizabeth Crafton German. Mrs. Curran was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and graduated from the Memphis School of Cosmetology. She was a resident of Memphis for a number of years and returned to Fayette County after her retirement. Mrs. Curran served as a Beautician in several Memphis Beauty Shops and later owned and operated Melba’s Hair Styling Salon in Memphis before her retirement eight years ago.
She was a Methodist and will be remembered as an avid NASCAR fan. Mrs. Curran also enjoyed music and dancing in earlier years and was a lifelong resident of Fayette and Shelby Counties.
Mrs. Curran is survived by two children: Beverly J. Biffle and Johnny Randall “Randy” Williams (Melanie) of Memphis; three sisters: Barbara Anne McCullough of Brownsville, Brenda Henley of Somerville, Janis Doering of Charlotte, NC; two brothers: Carl Allen German of Munford, Winston Wayne German, Sr. of Somerville and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Curran was preceded in death by a son: Robert Lynn Williams, four brothers: John David German, James William German, Marvin Acie German, Sr. and Robert Earl German.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hood Cemetery Association or to the Antioch United Methodist Church.
