Mary Frances McCulley Gruthoff Hurst, a resident of the Gallaway Community and longtime resident of Fayette County, died Tuesday morning, August 3, 2010 at the Gallaway Healthcare Center in Gallaway where she had been a resident for 6 years. She was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Hurst were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Ronnie Grunewald, pastor of Gallaway First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Walls Cemetery at Braden. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Hurst was born October 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Leeby W. McCulley and the late Ola Virginia Eubanks McCulley. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of the Somerville and Gallaway areas. She was a member of the Gallaway First Baptist Church and in earlier years served as a Bus Driver for the Fayette County Public School System. In past years, Mrs. Hurst enjoyed horseback riding and competing in area horse shows. Her interests also included home decorating, camping, attending yard sales and shopping.
Survivors of Mrs. Hurst include two daughters, Sherry G. German (Winston) of Somerville and Joan D. Hurst (Sammy) of Gallaway; two sons, Mitchell Gruthoff (Diane) of Gallaway and David Gruthoff (Robbie) of the Drummonds Community; her sister, Elizabeth Lowrance (Howard) of Memphis; her brothers, William F. McCulley of Gallaway and Terry G. McCulley of Brighton; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jason German, Gregory Gruthoff, Little David Gruthoff, Rodney Gruthoff, Steven Gruthoff and Travis McCulley.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Gallaway First Baptist Church, 377 Main Street, Gallaway, TN 38036.
