MARY PEARL MILLER HAMPTON, longtime resident of the Macon Community and retired employee of the Methodist Hospital Systems in Somerville, and wife of the late William Francis Hampton died Friday evening, September 16, 2011 at her residence. She was 75 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Hampton was conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, September 19th at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Larry Tubb, pastor of the Macon United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Hampton was born August 22, 1936 in the Macon Community, the daughter of the late Fred Roland Miller and the late Kathryn Darnell Miller, early residents of the Macon area. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married February 3, 1953 to William Francis Hampton, who preceded her in death on August 20, 1990.
Mrs. Hampton was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a longtime member of the Macon United Methodist Church. She served as an admissions clerk for the Methodist Hospital Systems in Somerville for 20 years and during this time, developed many friends that she assisted at the hospital.
Known for her neat appearance and pleasant attitude, she will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured special times with her family and friends. Caring for her green plants and exercise walking in her community were favorite pastimes as long as health permitted.
Mrs. Hampton is survived by two daughters, Sherry Duncan of Rossville and Jo Ann Hampton of Collierville, her son, Ricky Hampton (Sherry Kay) of Oakland, her sister, Flora Lee Miller Scott (James) of Macon, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jimmy Miller, Jacob Jenkins, Jimmy Simpson, Johnathan Walker, Will Sanford and Johnny Houston.
Jason Hampton served as an honorary casketbearer.
