Mary Elizabeth (Buffaloe) Hillman

Mary Elizabeth Buffaloe Hillman, known to many as “Granny”, age 84, resident of Somerville and wife of the late Coleman Gee Hillman, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Hillman were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Randy Chambers, Mrs. Hillman’s nephew. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Hillman was born May 7, 1932 in Somerville, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Whiteville High School and was married in June of 1949 to Coleman Gee Hillman. She was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area and was employed as a secretary for many years before her retirement. Mrs. Hillman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Somerville and enjoyed gardening, flowers, shopping and special times with her family, especially at Christmastime.

Mrs. Hillman is survived by two daughters, Donna Jean Hillman-Davis (David) of Somerville, TN, Janet Darlene Hillman-Holmes (Mike) of Oak Ridge, TN; her son, Richard Douglas Hillman (Linda) of Macon, TN; her sister, Beatrice Massey (Robert) of Portland, OR; her son-in-law, Terry Featherstone of Somerville, TN; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Gee Hillman; her parents, Clyde Hess Buffaloe, Sr. and Annie Lee Hill Buffaloe; her daughter, Lillian Diane Hillman Featherstone; and her grandson, Coleman Donald “Cody” Hillman.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Clyde Buffaloe, III, Randy Chambers, Bubba Chambers, Nick Napper, Jared Davis and Jason Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Christian Wimmer, Will Featherstone and Chris Featherstone.
