Mary Anne Darnell Lazenby, resident of Williston and wife of the late Hugh Marshall Lazenby, Sr., departed this life Friday evening, July 8, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Lazenby were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. James "Jim" Graham, pastor of the Williston United Methodist Church and Bro. Bob Brooks, pastor of the Dancyville Assembly of God. Special music was provided by Janice Doss, soloist and Donna Fortune, pianist. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston.
Mrs. Lazenby was born February 24, 1932 in Memphis. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and a member of the Williston United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lazenby was married April 14, 1951 to Hugh Marshall Lazenby, Sr. and she enjoyed working with flowers, gardening and special times with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Lazenby is survived by two daughters, Janice Lazenby Logan and her husband, Ronnie, of Williston, Glenda Lazenby Kee and her husband, Harlan, of Williston; two sons, Hugh M. “Bubba” Lazenby, Jr. and his wife, Dorsey, of Williston, Gordon Lazenby and his wife, Louise, of Cordova; six grandchildren, Chris Lansdell (Karen), Nicki Proctor (David), Daniel Lansdell (Kim), Robert Logan (Katie), Brandon Lazenby, Megan Lazenby; six great-grandchildren, Brady and Eli Lansdell, Allie and Marshall Proctor, Casey and Ty Logan; and her beloved pet dog, “Elvis”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Marshall Lazenby, Sr. who died September 6, 1985; her parents, Dee Darnell and Effie Izora Cooksey Darnell; her sister, Marjorie Ozier; and two brothers, Wilburn Darnell and James Darnell.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Chris Lansdell, Daniel Lansdell, Robert Logan, Brandon Lazenby, David Proctor and Otis Ozier, Jr.
