MARY LEE GOURLEY MAYNARD

February 5, 1928 — September 14, 2009

MARY LEE GOURLEY MAYNARD, a resident of Somerville, formerly of Memphis and wife of the late Willis R. Maynard died at 6:55 P.M. Monday, September 14, 2009 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville. She was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Memorial Services and interment for Mrs. Maynard were private with arrangements provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native Memphian, Mrs. Maynard was born February 5, 1928 to Clyde Gourley and Octavia Winston Gourley, who have both preceded her in death.

Mrs. Maynard attended Bartlett High School and graduated from The Mann Private School of Memphis.

She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church during its early years in Midtown. She was active in the East Frayser Civic Club, a life member of the Underhill Society, a member of the Elizabeth Bate Williams Chapter #1911 UDC and a Real Great-Granddaughter of Pvt. John J. Lee, Co. I, 17th MS Infantry, CSA.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maynard was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Willis R. Maynard; a sister Virginia Gourley Kebschull; and a brother, Fred Gourley.

Survivors of Mrs. Maynard include her daughter, Becky Lee Muska (Ken) of Shelby Forest, TN; two sisters, Vivian Gourley Laughter of Lexington, KY and Margie Gourley Miller of Concord, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends many thanks to the wonderful staff of NHC and Dr. David Dunavant, III who gave her quality care in her final days.
