MARY LEE COLBURN MORGAN, longtime resident of the Somerville Community, wife of the late Jerry Morgan and retired Employee of Oakland Deposit Bank died at 1:50 P.M. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville. She was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morgan were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, March 8th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Larry Kendrick, Pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Morgan was born January 18, 1924 in Rogers, Texas to Byron Colburn, Sr. and Virginia Wilson Lightfoot Colburn, both now deceased. She attended public schools in both Texas and Tennessee, moving with her family to Fayette County at an early age where she graduated from Fayette County High School and continued her education at a nearby business school.
A Banking and Insurance Agent for over twenty-eight years, Mrs. Morgan was formerly employed by the Oakland Deposit Bank and Henry & Company.
Very active in community affairs, Mrs. Morgan was a loyal member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church and devoted wife to her husband, Jerry Morgan, who preceded her in death. She was a dedicated caregiver throughout her life, and lovingly cared for her son during his lengthy illness after he received injuries in an accident a number of years ago.
A very independent person, Mrs. Morgan will be remembered for her outgoing nature and her love for community and family.
Survivors of Mrs. Morgan include three sons: Jerry L. Morgan (Donna) of Leavenworth, KS; Charles D. Morgan (Paula) of Humble, TX and Gary W. Morgan of Somerville; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Jean Colburn of Somerville.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Morgan and two brothers, Byron Colburn and James Fred Colburn.
James Colburn, Greg Hawkins, Christopher Morgan, Stephen Morgan, Mark Morgan, Brannon Morgan and John Morgan honored her by serving as casket bearers.
The family request that Memorials be directed to either the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Moscow United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the Somerville First United Methodist Church.
