Mary Virginia Archibald Morris, age 95, resident of Bartlett, retired Shelby County School System Principal and wife of the late Fate Morris, Jr., departed this life Saturday, February 7, 2015 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Morris were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, February 13th at the Forest Hill East Funeral Home in Memphis. Interment followed in the Forest Hill East Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Morris was born June 14, 1919 in Alamo, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Brian Archibald and Norah Blanche Mayo Archibald. She received her education in the Crockett County Public School System and received her Bachelor's Degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was married March 14, 1948 to Fate Morris, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 25, 2009.
Mrs. Morris served as a dietician at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and as the headmistress at Fayette Academy from 1974 to 1976. She was a teacher and principal for the Shelby County School System before her retirement. She was a resident of the Memphis and Bartlett area for much of her life. Mrs. Morris was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and attended Broadmoor Baptist Church in Memphis for over 25 years. She enjoyed special times with her family, cooking and sewing.
Mrs. Morris is survived by two daughters, Pam Morris Dunger (Terry) of Bartlett, Debbie Morris Kaufman (Rick) of Arlington; her son, Keith Morris (Jill) of Lakeland, Florida; six grandchildren, Andrea Dunger Turan, Ashley Dunger Scanlan, Brian Ward Morris, David Kaufman, Chris Kaufman and Marcy "Nicki" Kaufman.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kyle Kaufman and Dennis Permenter.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Kaufman, Christopher Kaufman, Eddie Scanlan, Mike Dunger, Bobby Baldridge and Kenny Masterson.
