Mary Louise Rhea Spengler

January 18, 1925 — December 1, 2007

Mary Louise Rhea Spengler, former Somerville area resident and wife of the late Arthur Frank Spengler, Jr., died Dec. 1, 2007, in Sun City, Arizona. She was 82 years of age.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 2nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Mike Pilcher, pastor of the Selmer United Methodist Church, officiating. A private interment has been held in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Spengler was born Jan. 18, 1925, near Somerville the daughter of the late James and Mary Lou Rhea. She graduated with distinction in mathematics from Southwestern College at Memphis (now Rhodes College) in Memphis, where she was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After college, she was employed in the accounting section of a Memphis insurance firm. She was married November 17, 1956, to Arthur Frank Spengler, Jr. who preceded her in death March 25, 1997.
Mrs. Spengler was a resident of Park Forest, Illinois, where she was active in numerous organizations in the Park Forest area. She was twice president of the Park Forest Women's Club, assisted in forming the Friends of the Park Forest Library, and was also active in the Sauk Trail Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution and the Girl Scouts. She and her husband became part time residents of Sun City, Arizona in 1993, and Mrs. Spengler became a full time Sun City resident in 1997.
Mrs. Spengler is survived by one sister, Betty Snowden of Selmer, TN, formerly of Somerville,; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Spengler Bjerstedt, (Tony) of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Spengler Reineke (David) of Anchorage, Alaska; one grandson, Zachary Janke of Minneapolis, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
