Mary Alvie Thompson Cannon, age 88, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Willie Reece Cannon, departed this life Monday afternoon, April 13, 2015 at the Douglas Nursing Home in Milan, Tennessee.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cannon were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, April 16th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with James Teague speaking. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Cannon was born July 22, 1926 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, George E. Thompson and Lillie White Thompson. She was married in October of 1939 to Willie Reece Cannon who preceded her in death on August 2, 1989. Mrs. Cannon was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the District 15 Community. She was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed preparing food, canning, quilting and working with flowers.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by five daughters, Ellen Fraley (James) of Henderson, Cathy Disbro (Earl) of Somerville, Mary Evelyn Jones of Covington, Wanda "Sue" Teague (James) of Moscow, Lillie Sprayberry of Moscow; five sons, Bill Cannon of Somerville, Robert Cannon of Somerville, Cecil Cannon (Joyce) of Somerville, Lester Cannon of Somerville, Raymond Cannon (Dell) of Moscow; two sisters, Ruby Ferge of Somerville, Louise Pittman of Somerville; two brothers, Clifton Thompson of Somerville, S.T. Thompson of East Tennessee; 24 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Effie Ames, Vodie Cannon; and two brothers, Herbert Hamm and J.C. Hamm.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were J.C. Shubert, Terry Hughes, Sr., Robert Allen, Jim Kelley, Billy Joe Cannon and James Cannon.
Honorary casketbearers were David McNabb, Tim McNabb, Wayne Cannon, Lesley Sprayberry, Cecil Cannon, Jr. and Joe Michael Cannon.
