Mary Ann Johnson Cannon, resident of the Williston Community and wife of the late Jessie Ed Cannon died Sunday morning, November 22, 2012 at her residence. She was 70 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cannon were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, November 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Perry of Moscow officiating. A Poem Reading written by a daughter, Wanda Davis, was read by Mitch Stark. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community of Fayette County. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Cannon was born August 13, 1942 in Collierville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Johnson and Beatrice Pruitt Johnson. She received her education in the Collierville Public School System and was married in 1960 to the former Jessie Ed Cannon of Fayette County, who preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Cannon was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of the Williston Community for the past 21 years. She was employed as a caregiver at the Gallaway Healthcare Center for 15 years before her retirement. She will be remembered for her lifelong love of children and animals. Caring for abandoned animals and providing food and shelter for them was a passion throughout her life.
Mrs. Cannon was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother who enjoyed flower gardening and all kinds of music with a special love for gospel hymns. She had been a resident of the Williston Community for the past 21 years and was a lifelong resident of Collierville and Somerville Communities.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by three daughters, Patricia Kimery (Ralph) of Moscow, Wanda Davis (Mitch) of Collierville, Penny Gosser of the Williston Community; her son, Jessie Ed Cannon, Jr. (Patricia) of Mountain Home, AR; three sisters, Kay Francis of Spooner, WI, Dorothy Blair of Memphis, Margie New of Oakland; her brother, Harold “Butch” Johnson of Murfreesboro, TN; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by an infant son, “Baby Boy” Cannon.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mitch Stark, Jason Davis, Michael Davis, Greg Kimery, Wesley Cannon & Clinton Cannon.
Honorary casketbearers were Tommy York, Ralph Kimery and Stevie Lipford.
