MARY JOAN GRAMMER "ANNIE" OLIVER, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community and wife of Lloyd O. Oliver died at 12:01 P.M. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one week. She was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Oliver were conducted at 4 P.M. Thursday, March 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Walter Meadows, former Pastor of the Dancyville United Methodist Church, officiating. Personal reflections were given by Mrs. Oliver's son, David B. Oliver. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Oliver was born in the Arp Community of Lauderdale County, Tennessee the daughter of the late James Grammer and the late Alice Elizabeth Bowie Grammer. She was educated in the Tennessee Public School System and was a graduate of the Brownsville, TN High School.
She was married June 13, 1955 to Lloyd O. Oliver of Fayette County, who was employed by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department for many years before his retirement.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were residents of Memphis in earlier years and she was employed as an Audit Specialist for the Memphis City School System before her retirement in 1991. They formerly resided in the Dancyville Community for a number of years and were residents of Hickory Withe at the time of Mrs. Oliver's death.
A person who enjoyed flower gardening and out of door activities, Mrs. Oliver attended the Dancyville United Methodist Church as long as health permitted and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her large extended family and many friends.
In addition to her husband of fifty-three years, Mrs. Oliver is survived by one son, David B. Oliver of Cordova; two sisters, Elizabeth Smith of Hickory Withe and Peggy Hamilton of Bartlett; two brothers, Billy Grammer and Don Grammer, both of Hickory Withe and one grandson, Skylar Oliver of Memphis.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Brad Grammer, Glynn Grammer, Greg Grammer, Wesley Grammer, Dwain Hamilton and Mike Smith.
