Mary Florence Carter German, age 82, resident of Somerville and wife of Arthur L. “Doonie” German, departed this life Friday evening, December 12, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. German were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, December 16th at the Somerville First Baptist Church with Bro. Granville Watson of Somerville officiating. Personal remarks were given by Steve German and Bernie Mullikin. Special music was provided by Kim Cook, Soloist and the Somerville First Baptist Church Choir. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. German was born May 12, 1932 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin O'Blackwood Carter and Mamie Lou Hawkins Carter. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1949. She was married April 3, 1950 to Arthur L. "Doonie" German, who survives. She served as a beautician for ten years and was employed at Chickasaw Electric in earlier years.
Mrs. German was a longtime resident of the Somerville Community and was a member of Somerville First Baptist Church where she had a special love for keeping children in the nursery. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to play music, preparing food, baking, canning, gardening and special times with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, Mrs. German is survived by three sons, Steve German (Georgia) of Oakland, Charlie German (Debbie) of Somerville, Melvin German (Janie) of Somerville; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jane, Jacob, Calli, Jenni, Justin, Lindsay; and eleven great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joshua German, Jacob German, Jonathan Burk, Andrew Harper, Justin German and Justin Koenig.
Honorary casketbearers were James Patrick, Royce Reeves, Glen Reeves, Jimmy Miller, Bernie Mullikin and Larry Cook.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Relay for Life , 1378 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104.
