Mary "LuLu" Louise (Burton) Garey

Mary Louise “LuLu” Garey, age 45, resident of Bartlett, 911 Dispatcher in Shelby County with many family members in the Fayette County area departed this life Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 at her residence. She was 45 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

A Time of Remembrance with a Gathering of Family and Friends for Mrs. Garey was held Saturday afternoon, January 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Interment will be private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Garey was born August 30, 1967 in Memphis, the daughter of John Thomas Burton and Virginia Ann Burgess Crutcher. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette Ware High School in Somerville. She was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and had served for over 15 years as a 911 Dispatcher for the Memphis Fire Department.

Mrs. Garey was married October 12, 1986 to Jeffrey Alan Garey, a Memphis Police Officer in the Criminal Investigations Division, who survives. She had been a resident of Bartlett for the past 24 years and will be remembered for her positive attitude who had the ability to cope with difficult situations and develop good from them. Her pleasures included scuba diving, animals and special times with her husband and family that included her beloved nephews.

In addition to her husband of 26 years, Mrs. Garey is survived by her mother, Virginia (Sis) Crutcher of Gallaway, her father, Jack Burton of Arlington; her sister, Jackie McKell of Covington; two nephews, Zach McKell and Landon McKell; her grandmother, Virginia Burgess of Gallaway; and her pet canine, Jake.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804 or to any local humane society in Shelby or Fayette County.
