Mary Nelle (McQueen) Murrell

Mary Nelle McQueen Murrell, age 84, resident of Oakland and wife of the late Walter L. Murrell, departed this life Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Murrell were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Carl Doyle of Oakland officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland .

Mrs. Murrell was born March 20, 1931 in Somerville. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married November 7, 1950 to Walter L. Murrell. She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was employed for over 20 years as the town clerk for the Town of Oakland before her retirement. Mrs. Murrell was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland for 35 years and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Memphis Grizzlies.

Mrs. Murrell is survived by her daughter, Lorraine McQueen Seros (Craig) of Whiteville; her son, Lawrence Murrell (Holly) of Memphis; two sisters, Georgia Laughter of Somerville, Aleen Dowdy (Howard) of Laconia; three brothers, Ricky McQueen (Audrey) of Williston, Wayne McQueen of Moscow, Ralph McQueen (Sue) of Middleton; one grandchild and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Murrell and her parents, James Alexander McQueen, Clara Graham McQueen; two sisters, Rita McQueen, Lydia Markle; and three brothers, James McQueen, Franklin McQueen and Donald McQueen.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Tommy McQueen, Ronnie McQueen, Wayne Dowdy, Donnie Warf, Jeff Glover and Craig Seros.
