MARY "TUCKY" CONKLIN LLOYD

August 22, 1946 — January 26, 2010

MARY ELIZABETH CONKLIN "TUCKY" LLOYD, resident of the Williston Community, retired Somerville grocery merchant and wife of David Lloyd died Tuesday morning, January 26, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for five days. She was 63 years of age and died following an illness of several months.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lloyd were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 28th at the Somerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Kendrick, Pastor of the church, officiating. A eulogy and personal remarks were given by a family friend, Joan Hartman. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Lloyd was born August 22, 1946 in Derby, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Conklin and Mary Griffin Conklin. After graduating from High School she attended Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.

She was married February 21, 1970 to David G. Lloyd of Memphis. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd were former residents of Memphis before moving to Fayette County in 1974 when they established the Lloyd's Big Star Supermarket in Somerville. They operated their business for twenty-eight years before retiring in 2002.

Mrs. Lloyd was a dedicated member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church where she participated in numerous church activities. Her love for music was known to many, and she was a devoted member of the church choir as long as health permitted.

Her faith, family and friends were an important part of Mrs. Lloyd's life. She developed friendships with many Fayette Countians during the years she was associated with the family business. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher who served as an inspiration to many during her difficult and lengthy illness.

In addition to her husband of forty years, survivors of Mrs. Lloyd include her daughter, Mary Beth Lloyd Maier (Tim) of Alexandria, VA; her son, Michael D. Lloyd (Margaret) of Perris, CA; her sister, Judy LaBranche of Fort Pierce, FL; two brothers, Steven Conklin of Barrington, NH and Richard Conklin of Fort Wayne, IN and four grandchildren: Matthew Maier, Henry Lloyd, Bryce Lloyd and Megan Maier.

Active and honorary casket bearers were Dan Allen, Robbie Allen, Matt Brooks, Bill Kelley, Dr. Will Middlecoff, Glen Morman, David Pickler and Mike Whitaker.
