Matthew Lee "Matt" Owens

Matthew Lee "Matt" Owens, age 38, resident of Memphis, departed this life Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2016 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Owens were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Kenny Bruce at Leawood Baptist Church in Memphis officiating. Remarks were given by Katelyn Summers and Nick Scott. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Owens was born October 6, 1977 in Memphis. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and was of the Baptist faith. He was employed as an executive chef at the Bluefin Restaurant in Memphis and was an artist. He enjoyed listening to blues music and outdoor activities that included camping, going to skateboard parks and special times with his children. His passion was cooking, stating “presentation is everything”.

Mr. Owens is survived by his daughter, Lotus Jean Owens of Arlington; two sons, Solomon Owens of Arlington, Elijah Owens of Arlington; his mother, Pat Trull Summers (Terry) of Lakeland; three sisters, Katelyn Renee Summers of Arlington, Jamie Lynn Owens of Oxford, MS, Tracey Trotten of Colorado; two brothers, Benjamin Thomas Owens of Coldwater, MS, Nick Scott of Memphis; his godfather, Ricky Prince; his fiancée, Kelly Baker of Memphis and her two sons, Noah and Riley.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Owens.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Ricky Prince, Mason Jordan, Luke Stubblefield, Andy Lynn, Sam Peace and Josh Dowdy. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Scott, Elijah Owens and Solomon Matthew Owens.
