Matthew Allen “Matt” Byler, resident of the Whiteville Community and a woodworker for much of his life departed this life Thursday morning, January 23, 2014 at the Methodist Germantown Hospital where he had been a patient for six days. He was 34 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Byler were conducted at 10 A.M. Sunday, January 26th at the Whiteville Mennonite Church with L.J. Helmuth moderating. Speakers were Dale Byler and Ray Kauffman. Interment followed in the Whiteville Mennonite Church Cemetery. The speaker at the cemetery was Dwight Miller. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of the Whiteville Community, Mr. Byler was born January 27, 1979, the son of Vera Louise Hooley Byler and the late Harvey D. Byler. He received his education in the Whiteville Mennonite School System and had been a resident of the Whiteville area for much of his life. Matt enjoyed horses, nature and outdoor activities and was employed in the woodworking department of Byler’s Woodcraft at Whiteville. He had a lifelong love for animals and was blessed to have a caring family and many friends.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Byler is survived by eight brothers, Ray and Elva (Yoder) Byler of Whiteville, Daniel and Rhoda (Yoder) Byler of Whiteville, Melvin and Angela (McKee) Byler of Everton, AR, Edward and Bonnie (Carr) Byler of Hulbert, OK, Wilbur and Janice (Yoder) Byler of El Dorado Springs, MO, Dwayne Byler of Grand Junction, CO, Galen Byler of Lobelville, TN, Kenneth and Katie (Knepp) Byler of Whiteville; three sisters, Esther (Byler) and Raymond Helmuth of Whiteville, Barbara (Byler) and Clarence Yoder, Jr. of Harrison, AR, Malinda (Byler) and Kevin Yoder of Whiteville; 44 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his father, Mr. Byler was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy and Hazel (Shank) Hooley and Daniel and Lena (Byler) Byler and his great niece, Emily Sue Helmuth.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Wilbur Byler, Dwayne Byler, Galen Byler, Kenneth Byler, Ray Byler, Lavern Byler, Daniel Byler, Melvin Byler, Edward Byler and Joseph Byler.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Whiteville Mennonite Church, 7065 Fayette Corner Road, Whiteville, TN 38075.
