Maurice Dale "Buddy" Joyner, age 78, resident of Williston, Tennessee, departed this life Sunday morning, January 8, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Maurice was born September 18, 1944 in Oakland, Tennessee, the son of the late Grover Jackson Joyner and Ila Nell Brinkley Joyner, both of West Port, Tennessee. He graduated from Germantown High School and joined the United States Army on August 23, 1963. He served in his unit for 32 months in Germany and was in the 2nd Recon 14th Armored Cavalry and received an honorable discharge in 1996 as a SPEC4. Maurice was employed as an aircraft mechanic with Northwest Airlines before his retirement and his proudest career accomplishment was going on strike with the company. His proudest moment in life was having his momma and daddy as his parents and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Joyner is survived by four sisters, Shirley Sue Casey of Leslie, AR, Betty Nell Johnson of Williston, TN, Lourice Gale Campbell (Phil) of Byhalia, MS and Patricia Joyce Hutchinson (Doug) of Kenly, NC; and his brother, Charles Joyner of Everett, WA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Stanley Joyner and Grover Jackson Joyner.
Funeral Services for Mr. Joyner were held at 12 noon Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Feathers Chapel Baptist Church near Somerville, Tennessee, with Sam Wolfe officiating. Interment followed in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh-LaGrange Road in Memphis.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Phil Campbell, John Campbell, Jamie Campbell, Josh Campbell, Dunstin Brown and Steve Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Casey and Timothy Hutchinson.
