Maxine (Chappell) Downey

Maxine Chappell Downey, age 78, resident of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas and former resident of Lakeland, Tennessee, departed this life Monday morning, May 23, 2016 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Ms. Downey were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Boyce Wilson officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Larry Pipkin, pastor of the Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Ms. Downey was born June 30, 1937 in Somerville. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a former resident of Lakeland, Tennessee for six years before moving to Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas in January of 2015. Ms. Downey was employed as a factory worker in the garment industry before her retirement and was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the District 15 Community. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking and collecting dolls.
Ms. Downey is survived by three daughters, Pamela Johnson of Moscow, Deborah Kay Thompson and her husband, Michael Carter, of Horseshoe Lake, AR, Tina Lanalle Downey of Memphis; two sons, Albert Ray Thompson and his wife, Crystie, of Williston, Jeffery Steven Thompson and his wife, Karen, of Memphis; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ashley Laverne Chappell, Sr. and Lessie Velma Houston Chappell and two sisters, Vernell Shelby and Geraldine Smith.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Ken Merson, Zachary Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Matthew Thompson and Noah Spicer.
