MELVIS ODELL GERMAN CRISP, resident of Memphis, former resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Jerry G. Crisp died Saturday morning, October 16, 2010 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one month. She was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crisp were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 19 th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Dennis Neenan, Chaplain for the Memphis Methodist Hospital Systems, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Crisp was born in Fayette County on October 3, 1934 the daughter of the late Jesse H. German and the late Mina O. Douglas German. She was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and married May 17, 1979 to Jerry G. Crisp, a retired tile and marble masonry contractor, who survives.
Mrs. Crisp was a member of Jackson Avenue United Methodist Church in Memphis and enjoyed cross stitch and reading. She will be remembered as a superb seamstress who was kind hearted and had a wonderful sense of humor with a smile that would light up the world.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Crisp is survived by her two daughters: Sheila White of Abbeville, MS, Linda Mullins of West Helena, AR, her sons: James Anthony Crisp of Kansas City, KS, Bobby Wayne McKee, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, her sisters: Glendora Sharber of Hixson, TN, Juanita Corliss of Memphis, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Crisp was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jesse S. German and Charles E. German.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Chris Corliss, Dale Corliss, Keith Corliss, Harold German, Jerry Hindle and Chris Nail.
