MERCEDES RIBES HAMILTON, a resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Clement L. Hamilton died Monday evening, May 10, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for 10 days. She was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Family members and friends gathered at 11 A.M. Friday, May 14th, at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland for a Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Hamilton. Remarks were given by Deacon Mike Blome' of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes - West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Barcelona, Spain, Mrs. Hamilton received her education in Barcelona and was married October 10, 1959 to Clement L. Hamilton, a retired associate of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, who survives.
Mrs. Hamilton was a Catholic throughout her life and had been United States Resident since 1961. She was a former resident of Jacksonville, FL before moving to the Oakland Community. Before her retirement she was employed in the restaurant industry for a number of years. She enjoyed preparing food for her family and friends and had a lifelong love of dancing and music. Mrs. Hamilton enjoyed meeting people and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her daughter, Margarita Franks (Scott), Southaven, MS, her son, David Hamilton (Zandra) of Hickory Withe, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 11710 Hwy 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
