Joe Austin
1946—2011
Michael Joe Austin, resident of Cordova, longtime Parts Manager in Memphis with extended family members in Fayette County died Monday afternoon, June 6, 2011 at his residence. He was 64 years of age and died following a four month illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Austin were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, June 9 th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Bro. Wesley Payne, Care Minister for the Cathedral of Praise Church in Cordova, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on U.S. Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Shelby County, Mr. Austin was born July 25, 1946 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Franklin Austin and Peggy Lee Morgan Austin both of Fayette County. Mr. Austin was educated in the Memphis City Public School System and was a 1964 graduate of Tech High School that was located in Memphis. He was associated with the small engine parts industry for much of his life and was of the Baptist Faith.
Known for his patriotism, Mr. Austin will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman and firearms enthusiast who loved his grandsons and enjoyed special times with family and friends.
Mr. Austin is survived by his son: Michael Jacob Austin and Jacob’s wife Starr Jewel Austin and grandsons, Noah and Riley Austin, all of Cordova, a sister, Pamela Davis of Cordova, two brothers, Stephen Austin of Bartlett, Thomas Austin of Oakland and seven nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Noah Austin, Tim Austin, David Carpenter, John Davis, Danny Delong and Randy McDonald.
