Michael Wayne Avent, age 83, went to his heavenly home on October 24, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cheryl Avent; three daughters, Kim Avent Pitsenbarger (David), Karen Avent Berry (Robert) and Dana Avent Tucker (Houston); six grandchildren, Matthew Pitsenbarger, Scott Pitsenbarger (Marissa), McKenna Tucker, Collin Tucker (Cynthia), Kye Tucker and Breeze Tucker; and five great-grandchildren.
He was born in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from Treadwell High School and Memphis State University. He was a dedicated public servant and had a 28-year career as a special agent in the FBI. During his law enforcement career, he also served as a criminal investigator, Firearms and Defensive Tactics instructor and a member of SWAT, as well as a SWAT Team Commander. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Jewell Avent; his brother, John Bruce Avent; and his grandson, Michael Ray Pitsenbarger.
A celebration of his life was held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The speakers were Pastor Sandy Long, Pastor Jason Awalm and Dr. James Gwen Barnett. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American SIDS Institute, 528 Raven Way, Naples, FL 34110.
