Michael Lynn Murray of North Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 14, 2025 at the age of 54.
Michael was born on November 20, 1970 to Brent and Sarah (Tabler) Murray. As an infant, Michael spent his first few years in the Mountain Home area of Arkansas where his father Brent was from originally. Mike spent his formative years moving with the family from Mountain Home, Arkansas then to Conway, Arkansas and finally landing themselves in Memphis, Tennessee.
Michael graduated from Kirby High School in 1989 where he excelled in academics as well as receiving his Varsity Letter in Track & Field. After high school, Michael attended the University of Arkansas and became a Razorback. Woo Pig Sooie! He majored in Computer Sciences and spent much of his time supporting his fellow Razorbacks.
Michael’s ability to excel in sports was evident when he was chosen to play on the U of A Men’s Volleyball team. One of his proudest moments was when the team was invited to play in the Inaugural World Men’s College Volleyball Tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia. Many of those teammates became Michael’s lifelong friends.
After college, Michael went to work for Walmart-Corporate in their store planning division which developed, constructed and opened new Walmart locations in new markets. Working for Walmart allowed Michael to move around, as he was transferred first to Albuquerque, NM then to Santa Fe, NM and then finally Las Vegas where he decided to put down roots. After being in Las Vegas for a few years Michael decided to leave Walmart and was offered a position as A buyer for LIDS Inc. as well as designing hats and apparel. Once LIDS was bought out he landed at McCarran airport where he worked as the Lead buyer and manager for both of World Of Sports locations in the airport. This allowed him to spend all of his time and energy researching sports, which is what he loved. Once COVID 19 hit and world shut down Michael decided he would change careers and work for USPS where he fit in right away and made many friends.
As for his passions, just as the Las Vegas professional sports scene was coming around, Michael was right in the middle of it. From football, to basketball to competitive dodgeball, there was nothing he didn't know about sports. He enjoyed spending time watching sports, talking about sports, betting on sports and hours on end with his online sports buddies. You could always find him in front of the computer researching or putting together stats. Being the natural coach he was, Mike was ecstatic that he was asked to coach his son's soccer team, and helped lead them to two league championships. Michael was also looking forward to coaching his son this year as he decided to follow in his footsteps and play volleyball at his high school.
Michael is survived by his wife, Rebecca Mendoza-Murray and son, Brayden Mendoza both of Las Vegas NV, as well as his parents, Brent and Sarah Murray of Arlington, TN, his sister, Juliet (Murray) Ammons and brother-in-law, Jeremy Ammons of Oakland TN, niece, Madison Ammons and nephew, Reed Ammons.
