MICHAEL WAYNE "BIG MIKE" OSTEEN

September 19, 1963 — May 17, 2008

MICHAEL WAYNE "BIG MIKE" OSTEEN, resident of the LaGrange Community and a multi-talented person who enjoyed history, died in the morning hours of Saturday, May 17, 2008 at his residence. He was 44 years of age and died of natural causes following a one week illness.


Funeral services for Mr. Osteen were conducted at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 21st at Heartsong United Methodist Church in Cordova with Rev. Steve Stone, Pastor of the church, officiating. A graveside service was also held at 10 A.M. Thursday, May 22nd at the Ewell Cemetery near LaGrange with Rev. Lloyd Shelton of Rossville, officiating. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.


Mr. Osteen was born in Memphis September 19, 1963 the son of Edith Thompson Osteen and the late Wayne Osteen. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of the Treadwell High School in Memphis. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette and Shelby Counties and had resided in the LaGrange Community since 1985.


A multi-talented person and an individual who enjoyed the friendship of many, Mr. Osteen was an accomplished artist, craftsman and musician, playing both trumpet and harmonica. He will be remembered as an avid student of history and a devoted member of the Heartsong United Methodist Church, participating in numerous church activities including the making of crafts and other items for church benefit.


Survivors of Mr. Osteen include his his mother Edith Thompson Osteen of LaGrange and his sister Sandra Burns of Moscow.


Those honored to serve as pallbearers were special friends at Heartsong United Methodist Church.
